Upon whom God shall look mercifully, this one shall head far away, into the great wide world, this one shall perceive hidden wonders of the world, forests, rivers and a flower of the fields.

These beautiful words expressed love of the greatest romantic Silesian poet from Łubowice near Racibórz – Józef von Eichendorf for the Silesian Land. We – in the 21st century have the honour of storing the treasure of this Land despite numerous temptations and difficult moments in history. One of he latest challenges we face is the time of pro-European changes of our society.


And thus on the one hand we want to live a life of luxury, while on the other hand we would like to preserve the values of natural environment.
We wish to escape to the quiet shelter of far forests and fields, while at the same time we strive for meeting new people. The necessity of solving these contradictory aspirations of the inhabitants is among others the task of democratic representative institutions – local authorities. It is local authorities which must take risks and propose their inhabitants non-standard, innovative solutions to many contemporary problems.
One of such problems that the Commune of Gorzyce is facing is the issue of working out an appropriate tourism policy. Some action in this area should be taken because of great natural and scenic values of the commune villages, which result form their geographic location.


However, up to the present there has been no tradition of receiving tourists in the Commune of Gorzyce. That is why working out a strategy or putting forward the best possible ideas without social acceptance would be unjustified in such circumstances. At the end of 2003 the results of workshops devoted to the Development Strategy of the Commune as well as the strategy itself (Wrana, Budziński 2003) provided a social basis which allowed us to develop this document. These results revealed that the said tourist potential is one of the most valuable resources owned by the local community. Another important planning area is the knowledge of resources. They were carefully prepared in the Index of Gorzyce Commune Natural Values (Chlebik 2002). The proposals of protecting the areas of great natural value contained in this document should be fully carried out.
